My paintings are a personal exploration of my psyche and the emotions that emerge in the
present, triggered by life experiences, memory, relationships and phobias. My paintings serve to
capture the here and now response to a feeling.
I use the feelings I get from experiences and let my emotions take effect on the canvas; I do not
plan the outcome of my work, but will incorporate certain colours or objects from the experience,
but use them in a non-literal way.
My technique involves applying layers of paint and materials which allow me to dig into it rip it
apart in order to reveal a history or past. The canvas retains every step - every layer of a life
experience.
I also investigate the wistful desire to return in thought to a former place or time in my life, a
sentimental yearning for the happiness of a former place or time.
My work is influenced by Valerie Hegarty, Angela de la Cruz and Abstract Expressionism.
My work flows from developing my responses to the emotional triggers that surface from the
deeper memories and life events. They turn into dream like images that convey my inner truth and
meaning which leads me towards my understanding of the sublime.
